In ancient Egypt, from 5000 B.C. to 3000 B.C., women would dye their toenails with henna to point sociable status and seductiveness. Women of the low class wore neutral and pastel shades, while the upper classes deep wore, bright shades. In Babylonia, 3200 B.C., men, not women, colored their nails with green and black color kohl, an ancient cosmetic. To get ready for war, warriors of Babylon put in hours having their fingernails prepared, hair curled and experienced other similar beauty treatments. As in ancient Egypt, nail color indicated one's status, black for noblemen and green for the normal man. Around the same time, 3000 B.C., the first toenail polish originated in ancient China. It had been created from beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, vegetable dyes, and gum arabic. Chinese language dipped their claws in this concoction for several time or left it to dry. During the Zhou Dynasty, 600 B.C., royalty used this simple toe nail polish with silver and gold dust on their nails to show their social position.
