Nail art is a creative way to paint, decorate, enhance, and embellish the fingernails. It really is a kind of artwork that you can do on toenails and fingernails, usually after manicures or pedicures. A manicure and a pedicure are beauty treatments that trim, shape, and polish the nail. Often the cuticles are removed by these procedures and soften the skin around the fingernails or toenails. The exact origin of toenail treatments is unclear, since it appears to have originated in various parts of the world around the same time. In ancient Egypt, from 5000 B.C. to 3000 B.C., women would dye their fingernails with henna to indicate public seductiveness and status. Women of the low class wore neutral and pastel shades, as the upper classes wore deep, bright shades. In Babylonia, 3200 B.C., men, not women, coated their claws with dark and green kohl, an ancient aesthetic. To prepare for battle, warriors of Babylon put in time having their claws prepared, locks curled and had other similar beauty treatments. Such as ancient Egypt, nail color indicated one's status, black for noblemen and green for the common man. Around the same time, 3000 B.C., the first toe nail polish originated in ancient China. It was created from beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, vegetable dyes, and gum arabic. Chinese language dipped their fingernails or toenails in this mixture for several hours or still left it on to dried out. Colors ranged from pink to red, with respect to the mixture of the ingredients. During the Zhou Dynasty, 600 B.C., royalty used this simple toe nail polish with silver and gold dust on their nails to show their social status.
