To prepare for war, warriors of Babylon put in hours having their nails prepared, wild hair curled and had other similar beauty treatments. As with ancient Egypt, nail color indicated one's status, black for noblemen and green for the normal man. Around once, 3000 B.C., the first toenail polish originated in ancient China. It had been created from beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, veggie dyes, and gum arabic. Chinese dipped their fingernails or toenails in this combination for several hours or still left it on to dried up. Colors ranged from green to red, depending on mixture of the ingredients. During the Zhou Dynasty, 600 B.C., royalty used this simple nail polish with gold and silver dust on the nails showing their social status.
