Nail art is a creative way to color, decorate, enhance, and embellish the toenails. It is a type of artwork that can be done on fingernails and toenails, usually after manicures or pedicures. A manicure and a pedicure are beauty treatments that trim, shape, and polish the nail. Often these procedures remove the cuticles and soften the skin throughout the fingernails. The exact origin of nail treatments is unclear, since it appears to have originated in different parts of the global world around the same time. In ancient Egypt, from 5000 B.C. to 3000 B.C., women would dye their fingernails with henna to point cultural status and seductiveness. Women of the low class wore neutral and pastel shades, while the upper classes wore deep, bright shades. In Babylonia, 3200 B.C., men, not women, colored their nails with green and black colored kohl, an ancient plastic. To get ready for warfare, warriors of Babylon spent hours having their claws prepared, scalp curled and had other similar beauty treatments. Such as ancient Egypt, nail color indicated one's status, black for noblemen and green for the common man. Around once, 3000 B.C., the first toenail polish started in ancient China. It was created from beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, veg dyes, and gum arabic. Chinese dipped their fingernails or toenails in this concoction for several hours or still left it to dry out. Colors ranged from pink to red, with respect to the mixture of the ingredients. Through the Zhou Dynasty, 600 B.C., royalty used this simple toenail polish with silver and gold dust on the nails showing their social status.
